Simply stated, writing is one of man's creative abilities to expose and express the world in which he, particularly, lives. Moreover, words are like musical notes. Musical notes maintain their essential properties but dance and sway to the harmony of various instruments. An author composes his symphony of words, sentences, and paragraphs to the tune of his intentions, and again, those intentions spring from the loins of his specific world, community, and life experiences. Writing, to me, institutes a medium toward the beautiful, a medium on which generations can re-speak, reform, and even reject an author's words. Writing extends generational memory, so that each successive age of sons and daughters can remember the wisdom of the past and avoid the errors of yesterday. Why is writing important to me? It participates in the beautiful and anchors man's fleeting memories. Many can use writing, like most anything else, for naught or to violate one's fellow man. Sadly, words can steal or impose, but if properly handled, words fundamentally allow man to share meaning with one another and to build storehouses of memory and wisdom for our descendants. Writing is important to me because I love my neighbor and I love my children. Writing is important to me because creativity is a beautiful act.
